What Do I Need to Know?
You will need to know how to present your cat, groom it, and be able to talk about good cat care. Breeders, or books on cat care, will help you with the answers to these questions. Watch the judges as they handle the cats and think about how nicely you can show your cat to the audience. If you are showing a pedigreed/purebred cat, read the CFA breed profile and other articles on the history of the breed.
You can also obtain important information from CFA that will help you. A single copy of the printed breed standard is available at no charge. Just send an email to cfa@cfa.org requesting one for the breed of your choice. Be sure to tell us which breed, and include your mailing address (get permission from Mom or Dad first!) If you want a book with all of the breed standards in it, the CFA Show Standards can be purchased for $7.00. You can ask your parents to buy it for you through the CFA Online Catalog. It explains everything about each of the breeds of recognized pedigreed cats.
Another book that can be of help to you is the CFA Show Rules ($5.00), available for purchase here. It will help you understand the different rules we follow when showing cats.
